Residents from Texas to Nebraska are grateful to be alive after numerous tornadoes carved paths of destruction across America's heartland. Oklahoma City residents experienced the city's first ever flash flood warning.

Sirens sounded as the powerful storm system spawned dozens of twisters across Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and Texas, destroying homes, farms, and everything else in their paths.

Tornado victim Chris Springer's children were terrified.

"For the kids, they were scared. I can totally understand why they were scared," Springer said. "You're hearing sirens and hearing the wind. They don't know what's going on."

The Oklahoma City area seems to have been the hardest hit, with at least 12 people from a trailer park transported to local hospitals and around 35 homes destroyed. The Bridge Creek Fire Department outside Oklahoma City was flattened.

Local newscasts warned rush hour drivers to avoid getting caught in the flying debris and downed power lines.

Then came the hail and record rainfall. Authorities are now assessing the damage and searching for more victims.
