Pollsters Embarrassed by Trump Victory

It's a tough day to be a pollster.

Going into Election Day, Donald Trump maintained that the polling industry was biased against him. A strong majority of pollsters and election modelers forecast a Clinton victory, many even predicting she would win in a landslide.

Today, the industry is in a shambles.

"It's going to put the polling industry out of business," said CNN anchor Jake Tapper. "It's going to put the voter projection industry out of business."

Of the 11 national polls to be released in the final week of the race, only two — a Los Angeles Times/USC survey and one from IBD/TIPP — showed Trump with the lead, according to The Hill.

The rest of the polls showed Clinton with leads of between 2 and 6 points, boosting the Democrat to a 3.3-point national lead in the RealClearPolitics average.

The battleground data released ahead of Election Day was also off.

There was not a single survey released this year from Wisconsin that gave Trump the lead. The Badger State, in fact, hasn't gone for the GOP nominee since 1984.

And yet, it was Wisconsin that, in the end, helped Trump seal the deal.

Only one pollster predicted Trump would take the electoral votes of traditionally blue Michigan and Pennsylvania.

State after state, it was the same story, as pollsters failed to predict the white working-class voters who would rally for Trump on Election Day. Something Trump, himself, never doubted.
