The nation's largest prison ministry is teaming up with Zondervan publishing company to distribute more than 140,000 Bibles to children of incarcerated parents this Christmas.
Prison Fellowship's Angel Tree will send The Adventure Bible to families for the first time ever.
The organization is best known for its Angel Tree outreach, which delivers gifts to thousands of children on behalf of their imprisoned parents and this year they are including English and Spanish children's Bibles.
"We will put a Bible in the hands of potentially hundreds of thousands of children—and what better way to show kids the true meaning of Christmas than to offer them God's word as they open their Angel Tree gifts?" said James J. Ackerman, president and chief executive officer of Prison Fellowship.
There are roughly 2.7 million children who are currently separated from an imprisoned parent and Christmas can be one of the toughest holidays.
Since 1982, Angel Tree has stepped in and provided gifts given by volunteers on behalf of parents. They have handed out more than 10 million gifts, to date.
Ackerman said that he is appreciative of the partnership with Zondervan and the opportunity to share the gospel message with children.
"They will have the opportunity to grow closer in their relationship with God," he said.
