Traces of Explosives Found on EgyptAir Victims

12-15-2016

Traces of explosives were found on the victims of the EgyptAir fight from Paris that crashed in the Mediterranean Sea in May.

Egyptian officials announced the new finding Thursday, adding that the government will launch a criminal investigation into the crash of Flight 804.

The EgyptAir crash that killed all 66 people on board was originally treated as an accident. Soon after the plane went down France opened up a manslaughter inquiry, but made it very clear it was not a terrorism investigation.

The day of the crash authorities say the plane swerved right, left, and turned all the way around before plummeting 38,000 feet into the Mediterranean.

Experts suggest a rogue passenger may have taken control of the plane, or there may have been a struggle between the pilots.

Egyptian independent aviation investigator Hany Galal said Thursday's findings explain the plane's erratic movement before it went down.

The EgptAir crash came just months after the Islamic State blew up a Russian passenger plane over the Sinai by sneaking explosives on board.

While the Islamic State has not claimed responsibility for the attack, the crash was a major hit to the nation's tourism industry.
