As Iraqi and Kurdish forces push the Islamic State out of its stronghold in Mosul, they're encountering a battlefield littered with booby traps -- including Teddy Bear bombs intended to maim and kill the very youngest residents.

"Why would ISIS use something nice, like a bear or a rabbit? a Kurdish Colonel asked the Guardian, "They used this toy because they know the Kurdish fighters will not touch it, but children will."

Other improvised explosive devices (IEDs), including some with detonators attached to playing cards, watches and lengths of hose, have been left lying about, waiting to kill the curious.

An assortment of the IEDs were put on display at a training center for bomb disposal experts.

The Guardian reports just one unit from Kurdish forces has cleared more than 50 tons of explosives from areas once controlled by the terrorist group.

The Islamic State, which prides itself for following a strict, literal interpretation of the Koran, has continued to slaughter innocent civilians -- adults and children alike -- even as it is ejected from Mosul.
