Malaysia Church Firebombed amid 'Allah' Dispute

09-07-2014

A Malaysian church was attacked with firebombs Monday.

Authorities say two men on motorcycles threw Molotov cocktails into the compound of the Assumption Church in Penang. No one was injured.

Officials believe it's connected to a long-running dispute over the use of the word "Allah" by non-Muslims.

Malaysian Christians, like many Arabic-speaking Christians, use the word Allah to refer to the God of the Bible.

The attack came after someone hung banners outside of five churches reading, "Allah is great, Jesus is the son of Allah."

The churches said they had nothing to do with the banner.
