Syrian President Vows to Keep Up the Fight

09-08-2014

Syrian President Bashar Assad has vowed his regime will continue fighting in the country's bloody civil war.

Assad made a rare public appearence March 12 to visit displaced Syrians in a suburb of the country's capital.

He promised to keep up the fight against gunmen whom he blamed for driving people from their homes, state TV reported.

"The state will continue to fight terrorism and terrorists who displace people from their homes and commit ugly crimes against them," Assad said.

"The government will continue to provide for the main needs of the displaced until they all return to their homes, whether in Adra or other areas," he said.

While visiting displaced Syrians near Damascus, the president blamed rebels for driving people from their homes with fighting.

Syria's civil war is entering it's fourth year. It's left more than 140,000 dead and forced more than 2 million out of the country.

The United Nations estimates 6.5 million have been displaced from their homes.
