And, Terry, I am very concerned about the progress that Iran is making. They just do it under the cover of the United Nations. And we keep blithering about sanctions that never come. But they have now tested deadly missiles. They’re capable of hitting Israel, Europe and even American bases in the Middle East. TERRY MEEUWSEN: And those tests come as the United States and its allies are deciding how to respond to Iran’s nuclear program. John Jessup has that story from Washington. IRAN JOHN JESSUP: The tests were hailed a success, and according to the head of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Air Force, designed to show Tehran's preparedness to crush any military threat from another country. Media reports suggest they included the firing a long-range missile capable of hitting a target 1,200 miles away, putting Israel directly within striking distance. The military exercise is also a test of international patience that is already wearing thin. President Barack Obama: The Islamic Republic of Iran has been building a covert uranium enrichment facility near Qom for several years. JOHN JESSUP: Last week, the United States revealed that it knew Iran had a secret underground nuclear facility. The US and its allies believe it’s being used to enrich uranium for nuclear weapons, which is about one to five years away, according to US estimates. But Iran's president, who has said Israel should be “wiped off the map,” insists the facility is for peaceful nuclear power. GRAPHIC: CNN: “LARRY KING LIVE” Pres. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (Iran): How can he possibly accuse us of secretly engaging in an activity that did not take place? JOHN JESSUP: After an international outcry and demands for access, Iran says it will allow UN inspectors into the site, but few are buying Iran's claims that all it wants is energy. GRAPHIC: CBS: “FACE THE NATION” Hillary Clinton (Secretary of State): We don't believe that they can present convincing evidence that it's only for peaceful purposes. But we are going to put them to the test. GRAPHIC: ABC: “THIS WEEK” Robert Gates (Secretary of Defense): This is part of a pattern of deception and lies on the part of the Iranians from the very beginning with respect to their nuclear program. JOHN JESSUP: The missile tests and the revelation of Iran's secret site are the latest examples of Iran not complying with UN resolutions and comes just days ahead of direct talks in Geneva between Iran and six major powers. Gordon Brown (British Prime Minister): Confronted by the serial deception of many years, the international community has no choice today but to draw a line in the sand. JOHN JESSUP: Some analysts believe Tehran's missile tests may be a way to gain leverage going into this week's talks in Geneva, but the Obama Administration has other plans. US officials are working on putting together a tough package of economic sanctions that could include cutting off Iran's oil and gas investments and adding more restrictions on Iranian banks, easier said than done. China and Russia have close economic ties with Iran and may not be so willing to go along. John Jessup, CBN News, the White House. PAT ROBERTSON: Ladies and gentlemen, they are playing us for fools. They keep stalling, stalling, stalling. And years go by. And as the years go by, they perfect the nuclear weapon. Now, they’re perfecting the delivery system. They have one desire, and that is to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. That’s what they have announced. That’s what they want to do. The western nations made a terrible mistake when they refused to listen to Mein Kampf. Hitler said exactly what he wanted to do, and the people ignored him. They said, “Oh, nobody could be that foolish.” Well, somebody was that foolish, and 50-million dead after, the worst war in our world’s history. People began to say, “Well, Hitler really did mean it.” Well, Ahmadinejad really does mean it. He really is a fanatic Muslim, and he really does want to destroy Israel. And it just seems to me like we’ve come to a crossroads, but we’re not doing anything about it. Something has got to be done to knock out those missile delivery systems and this nuclear facility, or these nuclear facilities, of Iran. But by now they’ve gotten hardened sites. They have hidden the sites in various parts of their country. And it will only take one, ladies and gentlemen, one nuclear bomb to destroy Israel. Just one. It won’t take a whole salvo. And so Israel will retaliate and they could blow Iran off the face of the earth as well. But the crazies in charge of Iran have already said, “It’s okay. We will take ten million, 20 million lives lost if we can destroy Israel and if we can hasten the coming of the madhi.” Unless people get their minds into the mindset of these leaders of Iran, they aren’t understanding what they’re doing. And obviously, we don’t understand it. But the key we’ve got, if we do want to pull a sanction, is real quick to shut off their gasoline supplies. They do not make enough gasoline. So if we interdicted their gas supplies, then we might be able to force them to negotiate. But unless Russia and China come along, it’s not going to work. Well, Terry, it’s a very dangerous world we live in now. And this is a crucial moment that we’re living in right now. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Well, when the British prime minister says we are at the place where unfortunately we need to draw a line in the sand, it will be very interesting to see whether we draw the line in the sand and stand by it. PAT ROBERTSON: Those lines keep vanishing. They draw one there, then draw another one here. TERRY MEEUWSEN: What are they afraid of? PAT ROBERTSON: Well, they just can’t get together. And more than anything, the two major powers, China and Russia, aren’t on board. Well, Lee Webb has the rest of our top stories from the CBN Newsroom. Lee, what do you have? RALLY LEE WEBB: Pat, Muslim leaders held a highly anticipated prayer rally in Washington, but the attendance was far below expectations. The gathering was peaceful, but as Erick Stakelbeck reports, those who attended made clear they say Islam is the answer to America’s problems. ERICK STAKELBECK: Organizers called the event “A Day of Islamic Unity.” They anticipated some 50,000 Muslim worshippers to come to the US Capitol. Their web site even read, “Our time has come.” The reality, though, was far less impressive. An estimated crowd of about 3,000 people showed up to pray and listen to a speech from the rally's organizer, Hassan Abdellah. Abdellah runs a mosque in New Jersey and is a controversial figure. As an attorney, he's represented several Islamic terrorists in federal court. He called on Muslims at the prayer rally to spread their faith. Hassan Abdellah (New Jersey): I call on all the Muslims in America to remind each and every one of us that there is nothing to be worshipped except Allah. ERICK STAKELBECK: Now, this was a very diverse gathering. You had Muslims from North America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Interestingly enough, not a lot of Arabic speakers that we came across. But we did come across several people who converted to Islam from Christianity. This New York City woman was raised Irish Catholic. Malika Rashdan (New York City): I had read the autobiography of Malcolm X, and I read about his journey to Mecca. And when he talked about praying next to red skin, brown skin, yellow skin, white skin, and everybody was the same. ERICK STAKELBECK: She argues that the concept of Islamic jihad, or holy war, has been taken out of context by critics of Islam. Malika Rashdan: My jihad is raising my children as Muslims in this country and keeping them away from drugs and alcohol and gang violence. ERICK STAKELBECK: CBN News asked this Muslim convert from North Carolina whether his loyalty came first to Islam or to America. Jibril Hough (North Carolina): My loyalty first is with Islam. But with that said, if I'm loyal to my religion, I'm going to be loyal to America. If I practice my religion like a good Muslim, I am no threat to America. I'm going to make America better. ERICK STAKELBECK: This New Jersey man had a message for Americans. Sham L’deen Mohammed: Islam is on the rise in this country. ERICK STAKELBECK: He says he’d like to see America become an Islamic country but not through violence. Sham L’deen Mohammed (New Jersey): We're not one to turn the other cheek, put it that way, you know what. But we're not going to instigate. We’re not going to start. We're not going to initiate violence against nobody. ERICK STAKELBECK: There were some protestors outside the event and several Christians handing out Bibles and DVDs. Some of them were former Muslims who didn’t want to be interviewed on camera out of fears for their safety. From the Islamic Day of Prayer on Capitol Hill, Erick Stakelbeck, CBN News. LEE WEBB: Pat, it is interesting that not many Arab Muslims were there. PAT ROBERTSON: The real leadership of the Islamic group was not present. You’ve got a few black former Christians who were taking a role. You’ve got a few others, that Irish Catholic lady. I think she was taken in by some of the things she read. But it shows it really didn’t make a difference in that. I don’t know why we’re spending so much time talking about it. There were only 3,000 people. Lee. HEALTH CARE AND IMMIGRANTS LEE WEBB: House Democrats say any health care bill should give illegal immigrants some access to medical care. The Washington Times reported that the Democrats say it’s “unfair” to bar illegals from buying their own private health insurance plans. They also say their plan could keep illegal aliens from going to emergency rooms for routine care. President Obama has said in the past that people living in the US illegally should not get coverage. And the bill drawn by Senator Max Baucus excludes them. But legal immigrants would be granted full coverage. HIGHER TAXES IN NEW YORK LEE WEBB: Politicians in New York and other states hoped to bring in more money by raising taxes on the rich, but so far that plan isn't working. New York says it's receiving about 20 percent less than it hoped from higher income taxes and other fees on rich people. Some states like New York, New Jersey and California are only temporarily raising their highest tax rates. They are worried that wealthy people will simply leave their states. Tom Golisano, who owns the Buffalo Sabres hockey team, changed his official address to Florida. He was paying 13,000 dollars a day in state income taxes in New York. Others have also left, and more people are considering leaving. One analyst says governments can't tax the rich too much, because, quote, “they employ people.” Pat, you think? PAT ROBERTSON: The liberals just don’t get it. You cannot grow by taxing the rich. You cannot do it. The thing that will bring prosperity to a state is lower taxes, less government regulation, the conservative agenda. That will work. The other won’t, higher taxes, more regulation. But the liberals don’t just get it. Their minds are fixated on the fact they’re going to stick it to the rich, and they don’t care if the rich give them jobs or not. They’re going to get them. And the rich are saying, “Not on your life, baby. We are leaving town, and we can do it.” And it’s so easy to pick up from New York and go to Florida. Lee. PHILIPPINES TYPHOON LEE WEBB: Massive flooding in the Philippines has killed at least 140 people in Manila and nearby provinces. And that number is expected to go up as hundreds of people are still missing. US troops are helping in the search and rescue effort. More than 100,000 people are in government-run emergency shelters. The flash floods were set off by Tropical Storm Ketsana. It dumped more than a month’s worth of rain in just 12 hours. The deluge trigged landslides that wiped out entire neighborhoods. Ronald Manlangit (Flood Victim): I was carefully watching the water as it rose way above me. The water was rolling, and everything happened in a flash. Every minute it was rising. LEE WEBB: CBN’s Operation Blessing is already in Manila, and the aid organization is conducting a medical clinic for the victims. PRAYER LEE WEBB: Today, Jews around the world celebrate Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish year. They observe the day with fasting and a special prayer. Chris Mitchell reports on the significance of that prayer to Jews and Christians. CHRIS MITCHELL: It’s called the Viddui, a prayer of repentance and a plea for forgiveness. Rev. David Pleggi (Christ Church): The Viddui is the central prayer of confession and for forgiveness of the Jewish people on Yom Kippur. And it's a prayer that they pray not only on behalf of themselves, but on behalf of all the Jewish people around the world. CHRIS MITCHELL: Reverend David Pleggi serves as the rector of Christ Church in the heart of Jerusalem's old city. He has studied the Jewish roots of Christianity for nearly 30 years. He says the Viddui recognizes, as Jeremiah the prophet wrote, that “the heart is deceitful above all things” and that deeds need to follow repentance. Rev. David Pleggi: One thing that we learn from the Jewish people, something quite important, especially about Yom Kippur, is that it's not enough to say you're sorry. You have to confess, say you're sorry and then at the same time take practical steps to change your behavior. CHRIS MITCHELL: The Viddui contains sections to be said both corporately and prayed by the individual. The group repeats confessions like, “We sinned before you. We betrayed you. We spoke falsely. Now we want to repent and ask your forgiveness.” The individual prays in part, “O God and Father, maker of Heaven and earth, I penitently acknowledge my sins, desiring to learn what is your will concerning me and resolving to devote myself more faithfully to your holy service.” Pleggi says Christians can find a parallel between Yom Kippur and the teachings of Jesus. Rev. David Pleggi: Now we have a saying of Jesus, don't we? It says, “If you bring your gift to the altar and your brother has something against you, leave your gift at the altar and go and be reconciled with your brother.” Jewish tradition says go get your relationship right with your neighbor, with your brother, with your family member. Forgive and be reconciled, and then on the day of atonement when you begin to fast and pray and to confess, God will hear your prayer and forgive you as you have forgiven others. It’s the teaching of Jesus, and it's also something that's part and parcel of Jewish tradition. And here the two line up very nicely. CHRIS MITCHELL: Chris Mitchell, CBN News, Jerusalem. LEE WEBB: Pat, back to you. PAT ROBERTSON: Thank you very much. Ladies and gentlemen, the word “Yom” is day and “Kippur” or Kafar is “day of covering.” This is the day of the covering, when the high priest went into the holy of holies and sprinkled blood on the mercy seat and theoretically, or symbolically, covered the sins of the people. So that’s why this was so important. And in order to make that effective, what they’re saying is they need not only to confess sin, but to forsake sin and start a whole new life. But anyhow, Yom Kippur is a very, very important day, a day of fasting for most of our Jewish friends in this audience. Terry. Ben Stein: Freescore.com. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BRING IT ON TERRY MEEUWSEN: Well, today is Money Monday, and many of you have sent in financial e-mail questions. And Pat, this first one is from Beverly, who says, “My husband and I are selling the house we’re living in and then either renting or buying a house. My husband favors renting since that would eliminate home maintenance, but then there are always potential problems with the landlord. I, however, want to purchase another home while the market is low. A friend told me to look into an NACA loan with a low interest rate. Do you know anything about NACA loans?” PAT ROBERTSON: I’m not exactly an expert on NACA loans, but this is a nonprofit organization that has distributed something in the neighborhood of ten billion dollars worth of loans. They have loans that don’t require certain types of authentication. TERRY MEEUWSEN: So what do you have to do to qualify for them? Do you know? PAT ROBERTSON: I don’t know. But I think somebody needs to go and fight out. But it’s something that’s quite attractive. I don’t know all the terms of these loans. But it is a nonprofit organization that puts these things out. TERRY MEEUWSEN: So definitely something to look into. PAT ROBERTSON: Something to look into. Yes. TERRY MEEUWSEN: You can probably find out about that online, I’m assuming. This is Lynn, who says, “I inherited money in the form of a municipal bond. I receive 5.25 percent on this money twice a year. I lost about 12,000 dollars when the economy tanked, but it has rebounded, and I only have a 3,000 dollar loss at this time. I’m considering cashing it in to protect myself from additional losses and buying some gold or possibly oil stocks with the money. Do you have any suggestions for me?” PAT ROBERTSON: Lynn, you have what amounts to a pretty good deal. You’ve got a municipal bond that’s tax free, paying five and a quarter, which, depending on your income level, might be the equivalent of seven or eight percent on a standard bond. So that is a good bond if it’s well backed by assets going in. And you keep getting that income, like it or not. And you said you had a 3,000 dollar loss. You don’t have any loss until you sell it. There is no loss until you sell. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Yes. People just get afraid when they see the numbers go up and down. PAT ROBERTSON: Yes, but it goes up and goes down. Now, I like gold, but gold doesn’t pay any dividends. Now, gold is probably going to go up. I think there are a number of oil companies that pay dividends in the eight, nine, ten, 11, 12 percent range. Some of the Canadian oil trusts are still paying rather substantial dividends. And so you can get more dividends. TERRY MEEUWSEN: What would you do? Hold on to the municipal bond or reinvest? PAT ROBERTSON: That’s one of those things that came from Granddaddy, and I’d be tempted to hold on to it. This is not a bad investment, five and a quarter percent on a tax free bond, if it’s well secured, if it’s a double A or triple A bond. I don’t know what the ratings of it are. Of course, I like to get more dividends, and you can do it. There are a number, just a number of companies, that pay much higher if you know what you’re doing. So you look for them. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Okay. This is Brenda, who says, “I have about five credit cards with balances. I have not made any purchases with any of them in a long time since I’m trying to pay them off. Each company has sent me new terms with rate increases or the option to close the card and keep my current lower rate. I want to close them to keep the interest rates as low as possible, but will closing them hurt my credit score?” PAT ROBERTSON: The credit score is a screwy thing. It has to do with the total credit you have available and how much of it you’re using. So if you have five credit cards, each of them, let’s say, has a 10,000-dollar minimum, you now have 50,000 dollars of credit. So if you’ve only borrowed, say, excuse me. I’m sorry. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Bless you. PAT ROBERTSON: It’s cold in here. If you’ve only borrowed, say, 3,000 dollars, then you’ve got a huge amount of credit, and so it will make your credit score look better, whereas, if you close them all out—the other suggestion that is made by some is once a year go buy something and then pay it off. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Immediately. PAT ROBERTSON: Keep them going. Yes. But it doesn’t hurt to have excess credit. At least that’s the way they score it. All right. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Okay, this is Rosemarie, who says, “I need some food for thought on what to do with 100,000 dollars of inherited money from the sale of my parents’ home. I know nothing on this subject, but I would like to do something other than a savings account or CDs. I don’t want to do anything foolish.” PAT ROBERTSON: What would you do? I think I would find five stocks that I believe are biased toward natural resources that pay a substantial dividend. And you could look. There are some tremendous things. Just get a broker to give you a screen on all the high dividend paying stocks. And spread your money, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20 over those stocks. And I think you’d be well positioned. You could get 20,000 dollars of gold if you feel like it, but I don’t think I’d go beyond that. But the other will give you some nice income. Say you can get an eight percent or nine percent income off 100,000 dollars, that’s 9,000 dollars a year. That’s living money. That’s good money. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Sure. This is Romulo, who says, “With the high number of home mortgage foreclosures and the economy being the way it is, is it advisable to pay extra money on our monthly mortgage payments?” PAT ROBERTSON: Not unless you’ve got a really high mortgage. It depends. If you’ve got like a 5.25 percent, 5.5, six percent mortgage, I don’t know why you’d want to pay it down. The question is . . . . TERRY MEEUWSEN: Well, if she had an ARM, that might impact it, right? PAT ROBERTSON: It’s always like do the math. Do the math. Sit down and write out what you would save, how fast you’d pay that off. But if you’ve got a mortgage that’s eight, nine, ten percent, and some of them used to be that high, then by all means pay it down as fast as you can. Then the Bolts tried a new strategy that took their company from 20,000 a year to 200,000. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * GREG AND MARILYN BOLT TIM BRANSON: Greg and Marilyn Bolt combine their family life with their work as owners of Back Roads Inn and Cabins in the black hills of South Dakota. The second wave of the swine flu is beginning to sweep across the country. The Washington Post reports health facilities say they’re seeing rapidly increasing numbers of patients suffering flu like symptoms. The CDC reports at least 26 states are now reporting widespread flu activity. That’s up from 21 states a week earlier. The Post reports 42 schools had to close in eight states Friday due to the flu affecting more than 16,000 students. Ninety-one percent of colleges are reporting cases of swine flu. TEENS AND CAR ACCIDENTS LEE WEBB: Teens who have their own cars are more likely to be in accidents. Two studies from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia revealed that accidents are much less common among teens who share a car or whose parents set clear driving guidelines. The research is based on a national survey of more than 5,500 teens from ninth to eleventh grade. Out of 2,000 student drivers, 70 percent had their own cars. Number 11 was waiting for him at the next bend in the road, but this accident was different, because it led to a miracle. TENNESSEE WILLIAM MORSE Tennessee William Morse: We went barhopping, and I started doing two shots of Beam and a shot of Budweiser. And so I started getting pretty ripped and smoked a couple joints. So I left the go-go bar and was doing 85 miles an hour down the road. I went to take a turn. I was headed for a big oak tree and a fire hydrant. And I don’t know if I yelled Jesus or God. I yelled something out, and the bike turned and I catapulted. I almost went over a power line and landed on my feet and fell back. And I had no feeling from my waist down. I was paralyzed. ANDREW KNOX: Tennessee William Morse had survived several accidents in his lifetime, but this one would end a long road of rebellion. As a child, Tennessee never felt accepted or wanted. Tennessee William Morse: I was picked on a lot and constantly called names. I wanted to be cool. I wanted to be accepted. Everyone wants to be accepted. Everyone wants to be loved. ANDREW KNOX: By the time he was 12, he was not only doing drugs, but selling them. Tennessee William Morse: We had tables filled up and we’d cut it up and weigh it out. I was caught up in some pretty heavy stuff at that age. It wasn’t about the money. It was just about being cool. ANDREW KNOX: In high school, Tennessee was introduced to a local biker club, The Renegades. Tennessee William Morse: And they’d ride up on their bikes, man, and I was attracted to that. I was drawn towards that. Nobody messed with them. You know what I mean? I was messed with all my life. And they took me under their wing, and I got my first tattoo. ANDREW KNOX: Tennessee never became an official member of the club, but he embraced the lifestyle. Tennessee William Morse: There’s more drinking than anything. A lot of one night stands with different people. A lot of riding. There’s a lot of intimidation going on. You weren’t going to mess with them. I’ve seen people get beat half to death. I’ve seen people beat unrecognizable. It was good to be accepted and not be messed with no more. It was nice. ANDREW KNOX: When he wasn’t riding with The Renegades, Tennessee was traveling with rock bands. That’s where he was introduced to crystal meth. Tennessee William Morse: Everything that you would want in any kind of drug form was there for free, because you were in the band. You were in a celebrity status even if you didn’t play on the stage. It was there for you. I didn’t really like it, to be honest with you. It was just to be cool. ANDREW KNOX: This need to feel accepted came with near fatal results. Tennessee William Morse: My body wasn’t functioning right. I was just totally flipping out. I ended up staying up for eight days. And I flat lined at Lee Memorial. I died. ANDREW KNOX: The doctors were able to revive him, but despite his near-death experience, Tennessee went back to his regular routine. Tennessee William Morse: I started drinking more and smoking more pot, because I didn’t like staying straight. I thought about killing myself a few times. It’s like I really wasn’t that happy, but I thought I was. As long as I was around everybody and I was around the lights, and the excitement, and the clubs, and the motorcycles, and the bands, I was good. But it seemed a lot of times when I got home I was depressed. ANDREW KNOX: In the early morning hours on New Year’s Day, Tennessee’s wild ride finally came to an end. Tennessee William Morse: I went to take a turn and the bike turned. And I almost went over the power line. I was paralyzed. I could not move my lower end, and I was just laying there, man, just thinking, like, first of all, I’m not walking anymore, and I still had a little bit of a buzz, but it was pretty much gone. And I just said, “Jesus, if you just let me walk, I’ll walk with you. I’m done.” I knew I was done. ANDREW KNOX: Immediately after he prayed this, feeling started to come back to into his legs. The next day, still sore from the accident, he went to the doctor. Tennessee William Morse: And I went to the emergency room, and the doctor said the impact of the bruise that I had on my heel could have shattered everything. I shouldn’t be walking. And I said, “I know.” ANDREW KNOX: Aware that he was miraculously spared, Tennessee committed his life to the Lord. Tennessee William Morse: I’ve been in 11 motorcycle and car wrecks. My 11th one brought me to Christ. No sex, drugs, rock and roll, no high could ever touch the peace I had. It was like I was healed. ANDREW KNOX: Since the accident, Tennessee says that God has completely changed him. Tennessee William Morse: My life is totally restored. I’ve got a four-year-old boy now, and I’ve been married 11 years. I don’t want anything to do with drugs or alcohol or my old lifestyle. God put it on my heart to start this Christian Soldiers group I’m in. You can still be a biker and hang out with bikers but do the right thing. And now I’m national president. I look back at all the times that I have been spared of death and getting beat half to death, because I know God was there. He blesses my in spite of myself. I still look around and have to smile the way He takes care of me, just how He was patient and put up with me for so long, waiting for me to come to Him. And the only reason that I’m even here sitting and talking to you right now and not in dead or in prison is because of Jesus Christ. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * PAT MINISTERS SALVATION PAT ROBERTSON: Jesus is the answer. Some people live wild lives. It was a miracle that Tennessee hadn’t been killed. You drive a motorcycle at 85 miles an hour while you’re stoned, and it’s a miracle that you come out of it alive. But he not only came out of it alive, but Jesus healed him. He was paralyzed, and Jesus healed him. And for some of you who say, “My life is a mess, and I think I can maybe just drown it in alcohol or drugs,” there are so many who just say, “Well, a little prescription drugs,” some Dorval or Percocet or something. You’ve got some name. There are so many of those pharmaceuticals out there that can put you down. But right now, God Almighty is saying, “I offer you something better. I offer you something better than alcohol. I offer you something better than promiscuous sex. I offer you something better than various types of prescription drugs. I offer you something better than narcotics. I offer you eternal life.” And if you’d like to have eternal life, it means you want to live forever and you want to know joy unspeakable and full of glory. If you want something that is greater than all the thrills that these guys think they’re getting, if you want that thrill, I want you to do something. I want to have you pray. I’m going to lead you in prayer, and I’m going to ask you to pray with me. Just bow your head and pray these words and watch what God will do for you. “Lord God, Lord Jesus, I know that you died for my sin. I know that you died for my sicknesses. I know that you died for my diseases. I know that you died to make me whole. And so right now, Lord Jesus, I turn my life over to you. And I ask you to come into my heart. Come in, Lord Jesus. SET-UP PIECE TIM BRANSON: Heidi Baker has made it her life’s work to help the people of Mozambique, the poorest country in the world. She and her husband, Roland, founded Iris Ministries, whose orphanages are home to over 2,000 children. Heidi has seen food multiply, just like the loaves and fishes in the Bible. She’s also seen the sick healed and people raised from the dead. Heidi Baker: He works here, because they’re poor in spirit. He works here, because they’re humble, desperate, dependent. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * GUEST: HEIDI BAKER TERRY MEEUWSEN: Please welcome back to The 700 Club Heidi Baker, just in from Mozambique, I might say. Heidi Baker: Bless you. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Just got in last night. Wow. Before we talk about what God is doing in Mozambique, I want to ask you how Roland is doing, because so many people have been praying for him. And he’s really had a season of struggle and is finding victory. Heidi Baker: Yes, it’s a huge miracle. He was diagnosed with dementia. And for two years, he lost his short-term memory and was in bed probably 22-23 hours a day. In the end, did not know what country he was in. We were in Mozambique. He didn’t know where he was. And we had a miraculous healing. He’s just passed his pilot’s license again. TERRY MEEUWSEN: No way. Heidi Baker: His memory is totally restored, and he’s back. He’s still physically recovering, but it’s a huge miracle. There is no medical cure. God did it. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Wow, that is an answer to prayer, because I know many of you follow Heidi and Roland’s ministry. And this has been a huge, huge answer to prayer. So thank you for praying. Heidi Baker: Thank you. TERRY MEEUWSEN: And thank you for that good word. Well, tell me, this month in your ministry, there are things happening that have been an answer to years of prayer. Roland’s recovery is certainly one of them, but other things. Tell me about what’s happening. Heidi Baker: Oh, just that we continue to see miracles with deaf people hearing, the blind seeing. Our drill rigs are finally working, so we’re drilling holes every five kilometers. We just keep drilling. TERRY MEEUWSEN: And that’s huge. Heidi Baker: A huge miracle. Yes. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Water. Water is a huge need around the world. But in Mozambique, in particular in the area that you’re in, this drilling is going to affect the lives of thousands and thousands of people. Heidi Baker: Oh, hundreds of thousands. Yes. People walk sometimes for a whole day to get water. And we put in a well in Jesus’ name. And we build a church right there and have discipleship. And people are just being changed. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Heidi, you’ve made the statement in the past that in your ministry in Mozambique if God doesn’t show up, you’re done for. What do you mean by that? Heidi Baker: If God doesn’t show up, we’re dead. We have no backup plan. We live on the edge. We breathe on the edge. But He’s there. And I’ve been praying, and every day He just says, “I’ll be a wall of fire round about you, the glory within you.” And we stay on our face. As a movement, we just stay on our face and we worship and we pray. We say, “Help.” That’s our biggest prayer, “Help, God, help!” He shows up and He does things. TERRY MEEUWSEN: You’ve seen amazing things happen. You said in the set up piece that we saw that God shows up there because the people are poor in spirit. And you write in your book and you talk a lot about the beatitudes. And talk a little bit about that, about the beatitudes and the correlation to what you see in the people in Mozambique and what it means to be poor in spirit. Heidi Baker: Well, for me, the beatitudes are Jesus’ self-portrait. So He’s showing us who He is. And then He says, “Come and follow Me.” And Jesus left everything to become poor and then show us how to walk. Poor in every sense He was, but He knew who He was. So He knew He was a King of glory, but He laid it down and He became desperate on the Holy Spirit. And Jesus depended on the Holy Spirit, depended on His Father, and everything happened for Him. Everything. He could command anything and it would happen. And Jesus really spoke to me that if we could get that poor in spirit as He is, it doesn’t matter what you own. That’s not the point. It’s your heart. TERRY MEEUWSEN: It’s a heart issue. Heidi Baker: Saying, “I’m desperate. I’m dependent. I’m needy,” a place of humility and brokenness where, “God, show up, or I can’t do it.” There is this attitude of the heart that breaks forth the Kingdom. And the Kingdom starts breaking forth. In Mozambique, there is no backup plan. The deaf hear every week in Mozambique. No one can buy hearing aids. No one can go get tested. But God opens their ears. And they just long for whatever He wants to do, and He does it. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Heidi, we said even the dead have come back to life. I’m sure there are people that hear us say that that go, “Come on.” But you’ve seen it. Heidi Baker: I’ve only seen one, and I was with a group of lots of pastors, so I don’t know if it counts. But our movement, we’ve seen hundreds and hundreds. And it’s all the Bush pastors. They pray. Sometimes they don’t even eat or drink for three days. And they pray. And they’re children of other faiths, children of completely other faiths that are brought to our pastors in the mud huts, in the bush. And hundreds have been raised. Every Bible school, I say, “How many have raised the dead?” Three hands, seven hands go up. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Really? Heidi Baker: Yes. Little guys with two colors of flip flops on, ripped shirts. “Yes, I raised three.” It’s just glorious. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Now, what is it like for you when you come back here? And I don’t mean that in a negative way toward here, but it must be very hard, because America has so much. We’re so blessed. I think God is wanting to wake us up in the church today. When you come back here after living the way you’ve lived there and seeing what you see there on a daily basis, talk to us as the body of Christ here. Heidi Baker: I just feel God’s passion for His bride in America. I feel His passion really strongly, that He’s just so longing for her to be passionate for Him. And I just feel Him just longing, so I’m not mad at all. I’m not angry with America. I just want the bride of Christ in this nation to wake up. And I said, “Jesus, I’m just a little person in the dirt. What do you want me to do?” And I feel like He said, “Be salt,” that I would just pour salt down the throat of the church and say, “Get thirsty. He’s alive. Everything in the book is true.” And just that you would long for more and more and more of His presence. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Tell me what the future for Iris Ministries is. What do you want to see happen that hasn’t happened? Heidi Baker: A million children. God has spoken to me. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Yes. We said that you oversee 2,000, but it’s actually . . . . Heidi Baker: Oh, well over 10,000 now. TERRY MEEUWSEN: . . . . .well over ten. Heidi Baker: Yes. In over 10,000 churches, 10,000 kids in our full-time care. And we get more every day. And just our heart is to care for a million children, to bring them home to the Father’s House, that they would not die of starvation.
