“American Christians are now experiencing overt repression and even persecution. Civility in politics and tolerance of opposing ideas has disappeared. Corruption and dishonesty in government is rampant and open. Race relations are deteriorating, earnings are declining, civic disorder is accelerating, and the national debt is beyond control,” shares Dr. Jeremiah. Instability plagues our world both nationally and internationally, which leaves many wondering if this is the end as prophesized in the book of Revelation are upon us. Secularists wonder if the nation is on the verge of collapse. Dr. Jeremiah examines some of the topics facing America and the world today:

  • Age of Anything Goes – Depravity is the root cause of America’s moral decline which includes pornography, same sex marriage, and idolatry.  Human depravity is a symptom of our isolation from God, which occurred at the fall when man and woman rejected God’s Spirit and chose to follow their own desires. Dr. Jeremiah offers some hope.  He says, “Revivals have saved our nation in the past.”
  • Bleeding Borders – Immigration has become a hot topic, especially in the current political arena, which has caused division in the United States. Regardless of the problems with immigration Dr. Jeremiah encourages Christians to look at immigration as an opportunity to expand the kingdom of God.
  • Increase of Intolerance – America was founded on Christian principles. However, today the concept of freedom has become an elimination of virtually all moral restraints. Christianity is demonized, ridiculed and marginalized. Dr. Jeremiah encourages Christians to stand for God’s truth without bending and to remember to whom we belong and where we are going.
  • The Resurrection of Russia – The prophet Ezekiel predicted Russia’s return to power in the latter days. Ezekiel described the invasion of the land of Israel by Russia and a coalition of mostly Islamic nations. However, Dr. Jeremiah says we must not fear. God is in control. He orchestrates this whole scenario in order to demonstrate to His people Israel that He is their God and worthy of their trust. Israel has no hope without God, and God wins the battle for the nation.
  • ISIS and Radicalized Islam – These groups target anyone whose religion is different from Islam. We need not fear that ISIS will destroy the church; it is invincible. ISIS can drive Christians away, even behead them and destroy their churches; but they will never prevail over the church of Jesus Christ.

The correct response to reacting to the storms we are facing is to look beyond them and to the only certain source of hope – God Himself. “Hope in the future of America and the stability of the world is little more than wishful thinking. It is not reliable. The hope God offers is the only realistic, absolute hope that carries the promise of a certain outcome,” shares Dr. Jeremiah.

Despite the condition of this world, Dr. Jeremiah challenges us to be joyful. He says, “As Christians, we have the best of reasons to be realistic optimists and to be of good cheer. The Bible is packed with all the promises and power we need.” Our nation is still filled with godly people who know how to pray. “We can still hope for, pray, and work toward a true spiritual revival in our land and an awakening in our world,” shares Dr. Jeremiah. Revival is possible; we cannot orchestrate it, but we can lay the groundwork for it two ways: (1) Pray for Revival Personally – rededicate yourself to praying, “Revive us; and (2) Practice Revival Personally – live a life of personal holiness and perpetual revival. “If we are to change the world, we must first let the Lord change us,” shares Dr. Jeremiah. Put away sin, put Christ first, and become kindling wood for Him. Dr. Jeremiah reveals, “We do not know whether America will soon fall. We do not know when the Lord will return. But we do know that whatever our circumstances, God’s desire for us is to live without anxiety and with hope. He offers you ‘thoughts of peace and not of evil,’ and He wants ‘to give you a future and a hope’ (Jeremiah 29:11).”

Dr. Jeremiah was raised in a family deeply committed to ministry. At the age of eleven, his family moved to Dayton, Ohio where his father, Dr. James T. Jeremiah, became the Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and in 1953 became the President of Cedarville College in Cedarville, Ohio. Dr. Jeremiah followed in his father’s footsteps. After graduating from Cedarville College and marrying his college sweetheart, Donna, he went on to earn a Master’s degree in Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1967. He completed additional graduate work at Grace Seminary and was granted the Doctor of Divinity degree from Cedarville College in 1981.

In 1969, Dr. Jeremiah began Blackhawk Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and developed a Christian school. In the 12 years he served as pastor, Blackhawk Baptist Church grew from 7 families to 1300 members. He also launched The Bible Hour television program. Dr. Jeremiah heeded God’s call, and in 1981 he and his family moved to California where he became the senior pastor of Scott Memorial Baptist Church, now Shadow Mountain Community Church. Shadow Mountain Community Church is one of the largest churches in San Diego County. It is also the home of Southern California Seminary and Christian Unified Schools. As Dr. Jeremiah began his ministry at Shadow Mountain, he felt God’s calling to continue the broadcast ministry he started in Fort Wayne. In 1982, Turning Point Ministries became a reality. Today, Turning Point's 30-minute radio program is heard on more than 2,200 stations worldwide. In 1982, Turning Point launched a television program, which went nationwide in 2000. The program is now seen around the world giving an estimated 200 million homes access to Dr. Jeremiah's Bible teaching each week.
