“It Felt Like God Was Giving Us a Second Chance”

As a single mother Miera (pronounced: MAY-rah) worked hard to support her four children.  But she was only able to sell shortbread cookies 3 days a week because she ran out of ingredients.

“I struggled constantly just to buy flour and other items to bake with,” said Miera. “Finally the day came when I didn´t have any ingredients at all.”

Then she told us she got sick with an asthma attack.   In order to pay for medicine and buy a little food, Miera had to sell most of their belongings. 
 
“I had to sell everything for a tenth of what I paid for it!” she said with sadness in her eyes. “So many years working and saving were gone in a matter of days.”

Katya, 12, hated seeing her mom suffer.

“I was really sad when I saw my mom selling our things, even her clothes,” she told us.  “I wondered what she was going to do after that to make money.”
