Former world boxing champion and now Senator-elect Manny "Packman" Pacquiao is telling voters "I will not let you down" and "I will not steal from you."
Pacquiao, who retired from boxing in April, was officially declared a senator in the Philippines after garnering more than 16 million votes in elections earlier this month.
In a message to his constituents, the 37-year-old Filipino promised not to "fail" those who voted for him and vowed that he'd "do everything for God and our country."
Pacquiao, whose rags-to-riches story and outreach to the poor, are well-known, told the Manila Bulletin that those who voted for him "made the right choice" and that their votes "won't be put to waste."
"I didn't enter public office to enrich myself like the ones who have made politics as their main occupation," Pacquiao said. Instead, he says he wants to focus on helping those less fortunate.
"The poor people and the needy are the ones I will prioritize in extending help," Pacuiao told the Bulletin.
Pacquiao retired from boxing last month after his win over Tim Bradley in Las Vegas.
