Americans are spending thousands of dollars every year to pay for the constantly growing number of federal regulations, according to a new report by the Competitive Enterprise Institute.
The annual "Ten Thousand Commandments" notes that the 2013 Federal Register contains more than 79,000 pages, the fourth highest ever.
The report also says the cost of those regulations comes to nearly $15,000 per household.
Overall, the report estimates federal regulations cost Americans nearly $2 trillion a year. That's more than the gross domestic product of Canada or Australia.
