More people may be dying from Alzheimer's disease than previously reported, according to a new study from Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
Although the Centers for Disease Control reported nearly 85,000 people died from Alzheimer's in 2010, Rush researchers said that number should be closer to more than half a million
With the new numbers, Alzheimer's is now the third leading cause of death in the United States.
Heart disease, which is No. 1, claimed nearly 600,000 deaths in 2010, followed by cancer with 575,000.
