If you want to be healthy, cut back on sugary sodas, drink more water, and be sure to eat your fruits and veggies, the 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee suggests.

The federal government will consider these and other recommendations from the panel for its final guidelines on diet later this year.

The committee has eased off on its guidance for limiting cholesterol, so more eggs are okay. The panel is also backing off on stricter limits on salt, although it says Americans still get too much.

The committee is proposing the first real limits on added sugar, saying it's especially a problem for young people.

"The (advisory committee) has produced an honest, straightforward, courageous report thoroughly based on research and at long last without mincing words," NYU professor Marion Nestle told The Huffington Post.

"Whether the agencies--USDA and HHS--will accept its recommendations remains to be seen," he said.
