The World Health Organization says taxes should be higher on cigarettes so people won't smoke as many of them.

WHO also said that more countries should be raising those cigarette taxes as high as 75 percent of the retail price – one of the most effective ways to cut down on tobacco use.

The organization notes that not enough countries are using those taxes. According to the WHO report, many nations have very low taxes on tobacco, or no taxes at all.

Around 6 million people die every year from diseases related to tobacco use. The WHO said that number will rise to 8 million by 2030 unless strong measures are taken.
