Poll: Plunging US Support for Palestinian State

04-02-2015

JERUSALEM, Israel -- Support among Americans for a Palestinian state has plunged to a 20-year low. That's the finding in a new survey by ABC News and The Washington Post.

Nearly as many Americans in the survey oppose a Palestinian state (36 percent) as those who support it (39 percent)

The dropoff in support was a signficant 7 percent just in the past 14 months and an even bigger drop from a 2003 Gallup Poll that measured backing for a two-state solution at 58 percent.

The survey also showed just 38 percent support for President Obama's handling of relations between the United States and Israel, while 50 percent disapprove.

The poll was conducted in the last week of March, after a surprisingly strong re-election victory by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as continued sniping by members of the Obama administration against the Israeli leader.
