IDF Completes Destruction of Gaza Terror Tunnel

02-09-2015

JERUSALEM, Israel -- Israeli troops completed the demolition of a terror tunnel from the Gaza Strip that was exposed last summer during Operation Protective Edge, the IDF announced Monday morning.

During the military confrontation with Hamas, the IDF destroyed more than 30 cross-border tunnels dug to attack and kidnap Israeli citizens and soldiers.

The tunnel, which was disabled during the operation, stretched from Gaza City to Kibbutz Nahal Oz. The IDF completed its demolition as part of its ongoing border patrol.

Israeli media reported that troops discovered a few old weapons abandoned during the operation, but the IDF described it as "a cache of weapons and explosives."

"During the activity, forces discovered a cache of weapons and explosives," the IDF Spokesperson's Office said in a text message. "The IDF did not enter the Gaza Strip during the operation [to destroy the tunnel]. All of the activities took place on the Israeli side of the fence."
