JERUSALEM, Israel -- Israeli doctors used a new technique to give a new jaw to a Syrian man wounded in the Syrian civil war, a press release from Rambam Hospital in Haifa said.
Although Israel has no diplomatic relations with Syria, hundreds wounded in the civil war have risked crossing the border into enemy territory for the last few years to receive life-saving treatment in Israel.
The 23-year-old Syrian man arrived at Rambam Hospital in critical condition. A rifle bullet had completely destroyed his lower jaw and blown out his bottom teeth. He was unable to eat or speak.
Doctors returned his human quality, said Dr. Yoav Leiser, who participated in the surgery. They implanted a jaw printed on titanium using a 3D CT.
