JERUSALEM, Israel - Terror attacks in Jerusalem have diminished somewhat in the weeks following the Security Cabinet's decision allowing security personnel to take whatever steps necessary to defend lives. In other cities, such as Hebron, there's usually at least one stabbing every day.
On Thursday morning, an Arab terrorist stabbed a soldier in the face before turning his knife on a Border Police officer. He was shot and killed at the scene.
Magen David Adom paramedics evacuated the soldier to Jerusalem's Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital. He was later identified as 23-year-old Islam Rafiq Hammad Ibeido by the Palestinian Authority's semi-official Maan news agency.
A second attempted stabbing took place around noon Thursday at Beit Hadassah in Hebron, the IDF reported. The terrorist was killed.
The day before a terrorist stabbed an Israeli woman in the back at a shopping center near the Gush Etzion junction. MDA evacuated her to the hospital and the assailant was arrested.
Earlier Wednesday, another knife-wielding Arab attacked several soldiers in the Tel Rumeida neighborhood in Hebron. He was shot before he could injure anyone.
Meanwhile, the mother of a terrorist who was killed after brutally stabbing passengers on a public bus in Jerusalem on October 12 told Lebanon's al-Quds television she hoped her other sons would in his footsteps, the Middle East Media Research Institute reported.
The interview, which aired on October 22, shows Umm Muhammad Shamasne brandishing a knife as she said, "My deeds will speak louder than words."
"First of all, Allah be praised," Shamasne said. "Muhammad was martyred for the sake of al-Aqsa, and for the sake of the young women of al-Aqsa. Allah willing, all my children will follow in Muhammad's footsteps. We knew [what he had in mind]."
"I did not cry, and I am angry that he didn't take me with him. Muhammad should have taken me to be martyred with him. We regret nothing. We are proud of him. I'd like to offer you candy to celebrate Muhammad's martyrdom," she said.
"I am concealing this weapon for Israel. Watch out, Israel! Watch out," she said motioning with the knife, prompting her interviewer to say, "Please put that thing away."
"I will sacrifice my four children for the sake of al-Aqsa, and I will be the first to sacrifice myself for the sake of al-Aqsa," she continued. "Watch out, Israel. You have brought the fire of hell upon yourself, and you don't know who you're dealing with. There's no need for me to say any more. My deeds will speak louder than words."
