Israelis Track Down Ax-Wielding Terrorist

02-29-2016

JERUSALEM, Israel – The terrorist who attacked an Israeli security guard with ax, nearly killing him, is in custody.

While Tzvika Cohen, 48, remains sedated on a respirator as doctors fight to save his life, his attacker surrendered to Israeli authorities over the weekend.

The horrific attack, recorded by a security camera around 1:00 a.m. Friday, shows the terrorist repeatedly striking his victim with an ax, which he left at scene of the bloody attack.

On Saturday night, Israeli security forces arrived at the home of 21-year-old Saadi Ali Abu Hamed, whose location was disclosed earlier to Israel Police by one of his relatives. The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) said Hamed had already decided to turn himself in.

Israeli authorities imposed a closure on Hamed's hometown, al-Eizariya, located near Ma'ale Adumim, just outside Jerusalem, where the attack took place. None of the residents of the town were permitted to go to work anywhere in Israel.

Moshe Cohen, one of the victim's brothers, told police Hamed worked at the same mall and knew his brother.

Another brother, Rahamim Cohen, was almost killed in 2000 when a terrorist stabbed him repeatedly in his taxi and left him for dead.

"I hope very much that Tzvika pulls through," he told Israel Hayom. "I haven't recovered from my injuries yet…The terrorist stabbed me 11 times and I miraculously survived," he said, asking all Israel to pray for his brother's recovery.
