Netanyahu: We'll Fence All Our Borders

02-11-2016

JERUSALEM, Israel – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a multi-year project to complete security fencing on every border, saying he envisions a fence spanning the entire country.

"We will surround all of the State of Israel with fences and barriers," Netanyahu told reporters earlier this week after touring Israel's border with Jordan by helicopter. "In the neighborhood in which we live, we must protect ourselves from predators."

Netanyahu also said the government is preparing a plan to close the gaps in the security fencing in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank).

During his most recent visit to view the progress on a 30-kilometer stretch of security fencing from Eilat, Israel's southernmost resort city, extending north along the border, he was accompanied by IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gadi Eisenkott, Maj. Gen. Eyal Zamir, Brig. Gen. Eran Ofir and Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz.

Under the Netanyahu government, Israel fenced off its southern border with the Egyptian Sinai, which for all intents and purposes ended the flood of illegal infiltration by asylum seekers several years ago. It has also helped prevent terror cells embedded in the Sinai from carrying out attacks inside Israel.

Israel also reinforced the security fence and protective apparatus along the border with Syria, protecting residents of the Golan Heights from attempted terror infiltrations.
