Fires Destroy Ancient Jerusalem Tomb

Still unanswered questions surrounding fires at two ancient Tombs in Jerusalem's Old City. They went up in flames Friday, in what police believe may have been an arson attack.

Ynet reports unidentified persons are suspected to have set fire to Absalom's Tomb, just opposite the Temple Mount and close to the Tomb of Jehosephat.

Absalom was King David's third son, and according to tradition, was buried alongside other ancient tombs on the Mount of Olives.

The fires caused serious damage to the tomb and the surrounding monuments dating back some 2,000 years.

"We will act to the extent of our abilities with law enforcement, including the police, to find those responsible and bring them to justice," said Assaf Avraham, the Israel Park's Authority administrator.

Israeli police opened up an investigation into Friday's arson. Meanwhile, they are also looking into three other suspected arson attacks against sewage trucks in East Jerusalem that occurred Friday evening.
