Seeing Israel through God's Eyes

09-08-2014

JERUSALEM, Israel -- Most have heard the phrase, “God works in mysterious ways,” or to paraphrase the prophet Isaiah, God’s ways are a whole lot higher than ours.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.” (Is. 55:9)

The April 29 deadline for the U.S.-backed timetable to reach a political consensus between Israel and the Palestinian Authority has come and gone. The Palestinians blamed Israel for the impasse and had little trouble convincing friends in the Middle East and Europe of that “reality.”

At a conference in Washington, D.C., Thursday evening, Obama administration envoy Martin Indyk told participants that Israel’s “rampant settlement activity…undermined Palestinian trust in the purpose of the negotiations.”

Like Secretary of State John Kerry, Indyk warned that failure to reach a two-state solution could “undermine Israel’s Jewish future….It could mortally wound the idea of Israel as a Jewish state.”

This week, President Obama dispatched National Security Advisor Susan Rice to Israel to talk about shared concerns, including the stalled peace talks. She also touted two states as the only viable solution to the conflict, despite a myriad of evidence to the contrary.

It would be well to remember Rice is the same diplomat who blamed an anti-Muslim video for the September 11, 2012, terror attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, which left Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans dead. To this day, she says she has no regrets and insists neither she nor anyone else intentionally mislead the American people, despite increasing evidence to the contrary.

It’s evident that all three -- Indyk, Kerry, and Rice -- believe they know what’s best for Israel. They don’t appear to understand God’s testimony to Isaiah.

There’s an old Yiddish phrase that says in essence, “Man proposes, God disposes.”

We can be sure God will fulfill every “jot and title” He has spoken about Israel and the Jewish people. There’s no doubt, the best way to understand today’s headlines is by seeking His face and studying His Word.

That’s good to bear in mind when praying into the day-to-day events in Israel today.
