Israel's Largest ER Set to Open

09-08-2014

JERUSALEM, Israel -- Israel's largest fortified emergency room will be fully operational in two months.

A fortified emergency room is designed to protect patients and staff against conventional and chemical war, realities the Jewish state faces on a day-to-day basis.

At inauguration ceremonies at Rabin Medical Center in Petah Tikvah, CEO Dr. Eran Halpern said he's "proud to inaugurate the first ER of its kind in Israel," YNet reported.

The nearly 60,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility features individual patient rooms and private offices for specialists, psychologists and social workers to provide services for patients' families. It also includes on-site X-ray, CT scan and ultrasound facilities.

"The new ER allows each patient to receive personal attention, quietly,  calmly and privately, while maintaining and advancing quality, safety and infection control in the best way possible," Rabin Medical Center Deputy Director Dr. Boaz Tadmor said.

The new facility, which cost an estimated $26 million, will be able to treat 200,000 patients annually.
