WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama said Thursday that the San Bernardino massacre may or may not be related to terrorism and that the shooters' may have had "mixed motives."

The president addressed reporters from the oval office Thursday. He took that opportunity to reiterate calls for stricter gun control laws.

"As the investigation moves forward it's going to be important for all of us, including members of our legislature, to see what we can do to make sure that when individuals decide they want to do somebody harm, we'll make it a little harder for them to do it," Obama stated.

Senate Democrats acted swiftly with a press conference of their own calling for amendments to the pending reconciliation bill. The amendments are expected to make it harder for people on the terror watch list to obtain weapons.

"The time for prayers, thoughts, and sympathies is now. But it is also the time to act. A husband shouldn't get a call that his wife was killed in a classroom because Republicans in Congress don't have the courage to challenge the NRA," Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said.

The amendment would also take a look at mental health issues and re-introduce the idea of universal background checks.
