Lawmakers gathered in Washington for the annual lighting of the Capitol Christmas Tree Tuesday night.
This year's tree was an 88-foot white spruce from Minnesota's Chippewa National Forest.
House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, presided over the festivities and reminded everyone that Christmas is a time to rediscover "the glory of God's love."
He spoke about the first Christmas when an angel announced the birth of a savior, Christ the Lord.
Aaron Urban, a 10-year-old brain cancer patient, helped to light the tree.
The National Christmas Tree lighting will take place on Thursday outside the White House in a ceremony attended by President Barack Obama.
