A digital billboard along Interstate 49 in Arkansas is flashing alternating ads by a church and an atheist group.

The American Atheists ad shows a young girl writing Santa Claus that all she wants for the holidays is to miss church because she's too old for fairy tales.

That ad inspired a response by Grace Church in Alma, Arkansas.

The church raised money to pay for its own ad to appear seconds later on the same digital billboard.

The church's ad reads, "Questions, doubts, curiosity? All welcome at Grace Church."

"We wanted to express respect and a desire to sit down and listen," Devon Walker, the church's executive pastor, said. "We actually love that discussion. We support that."

Walker said the church has received calls and emails from atheists expressing gratitude for its respectful response.

"It's not really a common situation where you see Christians and atheists sitting down to talk to each other, to have a dialogue," he said. "Normally, it's pretty hostile between the two groups."
