Hundreds of New York City police officers turned away when Mayor Bill de Blasio spoke during the funeral of Rafael Ramos, one of the two officers gunned down last week.

Tensions have been running high between the NYPD and the mayor over what some police see as a lack of support for the force.

In contrast with the officers' gesture, NYPD Commissioner William Bratton expressed his support for the mayor.

During an interview with CBS "Face the Nation," Bratton said he does not support the action taken by many officers during de Blasio's remarks.

"I think it was very inappropriate at that event," he said. "That funeral was held to honor officer Ramos. And to bring politics, to bring issues into that event, I think, was very inappropriate, and I do not support it."

Officer Ramos was a Christian who saw his work as a ministry and was about to be commissioned as a police chaplain.
