Graduating seniors at a Virginia high school defied a demand by the American Civil Liberties Union that they remove a Christian song from their graduation ceremony.

Students at Thomas Walker High School in Ewing, Virginia, lined up after receiving their diplomas and began singing "God Be With You 'Til We Meet Again."

"It's been a tradition at Thomas Walker since the school started in 1940. The actual song "'Til We Meet Again at Jesus' Feet" has been sung and there's not been a concern or issue brought forth by anyone at the school or any member of the community," Superintendent Mark Carter said.

The song had been removed from the official graduation program. However, the community of Ewing responded by putting up yard signs with a simple phrase "Keep praying and singing Thomas Walker."

Then, after they were officially declared graduates during the ceremony, the seniors stood and sang the song while some members of the audience cheered and joined in.
