New research shows churches are often not talking openly about mental illness and often have no ministries in place to help those who are struggling.
Nashville-based Lifeway Research recently surveyed 1,000 senior Protestant pastors and found 66 percent seldom speak to their congregations about mental illness.
Fifty-nine percent of those struggling with it want their church to talk openly about mental illness as well as 65 percent of family members, according to the survey.
It also found that most churches are not prepared to help. Pastors say just 27 percent have a plan to assist families affected by mental illness.
