Superintendent Orders 'Christmas' Removed from School Flyers

12-03-2015

An American Legion post commander in New Hampshire was told to replace the word "Christmas" with "holiday" on flyers that were to be distributed to a school.

John Fletcher has advertised a community tree-lighting ceremony for years, but this year he was asked to change the wording on the flyers because it offended the school's new superintendent.

Fletcher recieved a call shortly after Veterans Day from Superintendent Robert Malay who said the U.S. Consitution forbids a public school district from aiding, promoting, or endorsing a particular religion or religious activity.

The Education Action Group News (EAGnews) reports that Fletcher refused to use the word "holiday" because, as he put it, "It's a Christmas tree, not a holiday tree."

Fletcher's wife whited out Christmas on the flyers but did not add the word holiday. She left it blank.

"I respect all rights; always have. But, do not take away our rights because you may offend someone else," Fletcher told EAGnews.

"I'm tired of the political correctness," he added. "It's gotten out of hand."
