Florida Judge Clears Gay Marriage to Start on Jan. 6

01-01-2015

Same sex couples in Florida will be able to be legally married beginning next week, making Florida the 36th state with legal gay marriage.

There's been a lot of confusion over whether same sex couples could actually get married beginning Jan. 6 because of an extensive legal wrangling that's been going on for months over the issue.

On Wednesday, Circuit Court Judge Timothy Shea tried to clear the air by saying county clerks may begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples beginning Jan. 6.

Meanwhile, two firemen in Rhode Island say their constitutional rights were violated when they were ordered to drive a truck in a gay pride parade in 2001.

The Rhode Island Supreme Court did not agree and has thrown out lawsuits filed by the men.

The men are Roman Catholics and refuse to condone homosexuality. But state Justice William Robinson said the pair are public servants and that driving a truck in the parade is a legitimate work assignment.
