Regent University has begun a new partnership with Eastern Virginia Medical School, which will allow qualified Regent undergraduate students with an interest in a career in healthcare to obtain early assurance of acceptance into EVMS health profession programs.
The programs include a Master of Science in Art Therapy and Counseling, a Master of Public Health, a Master of Surgical Assisting, a Biotechnology Master's Program, and a Biomedical Sciences Research Master's Program.
Dr. Gerson Moreno-Riano, executive vice president for Academic Affairs at Regent, told CBN News that the partnership with EVMS "helps us to accomplish our mission of Christian leadership."
"We've seen an upsurge of applications of students interested in the program and existing students are interested as well," he said.
The partnership comes amidst growing demand for healthcare workers, in part becuase of an aging baby boomer generation. Healthcare spending currently accounts for 18 percent of the nation's gross domestic product.
Regent University recently launched a biophysical sciences degree program and opened an Applied Science and Ethics laboratory.
