A Christian student at Polk State College in Winter Haven, Florida, claims a professor gave her failing grades because she wouldn't criticize her faith.
Humanities professor Lance "L.J." Russum allegedly assigned students to write papers forcing them to deny the existence of God and agree that Christianity oppresses women.
When 16-year-old Grace Lewis wrote papers contesting the professor's point of view, she was given a failing grade on those assignments. Despite the zeros, she still received an A in the class.
Lewis is dual-enrolled at Polk State through Florida Virtual School and has a 3.9 GPA, according to Liberty Counsel.
Polk State leaders defended the professor's actions in an extensive letter to Liberty Counsel, which included some of Russum's direct clarifications of the assignments.
"The College affirmatively asserts that your allegation of discrimination is baseless, without merit, and absolutely lacking any factual support," the letter states. Read the entire letter here.
