Rowan County, Kentucky, is issuing same-sex marriage licenses without clerk Kim Davis's name on them.
A lesbian couple received their license Monday. Instead of Davis's name, the license reads, "Pursuant to a federal court order."
Davis spent five days in jail for refusing to issue gay marriage licenses under her name.
Davis's attorney, Harry Mihet, said the new license is an acceptable solution.
"The license that went out today does not violate Kim Davis' conscience. If it's satisfactory to the plaintiffs and the court, then I think we would have found that win-win solution that we have been asking for all along," Mihet said.
Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear agrees the new licenses are legal, but he's resisting calls for a special legislative session to exempt Davis and others who have a religious objection to issuing same-sex marriage licenses.
