HHS Contraception Mandate Struck Down, Again

09-18-2015

Two religious institutions have won another legal victory over the contraception mandate in Obamacare.

The Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld a lower court's order exempting two Christian colleges from that mandate.

Dordt College in Iowa and Cornerstone University in Michigan faced fines for refusing to provide insurance coverage for contraceptives that violate their religious beliefs.

The court of appeals said Obamacare's contraceptive mandate and accommodation process "substantially burdened" the schools' "exercise of religion."

Alliance Defending Freedom represented both schools.

"The government shouldn't punish people of faith for making decisions in accordance with their faith," the conservative Christian law group's senior counsel Kevin Theriot said.
