Hundreds of Kansans Rally for Religious Freedom

02-18-2016

Hundreds of people rallied for religious freedom at the Kansas Statehouse Wednesday, arguing that the government should not force them to provide goods or services that violate their beliefs.

Several hundred people gathered to hear speeches at the event, while a Kansas House committee heard from Washington state florist Barronnelle Stutzman, who was sued for refusing to provide flowers for a same-sex wedding.

Ryan Anderson, of the Heritage Foundation, told the crowd that the federal government has infringed on religious freedom by threatening to remove accreditation for faith-based schools that oppose same-sex marriage.

Republican Gov. Sam Brownback ended the rally by urging activists to continue fighting for "religious liberty for all people."
