Former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell's appeal on his bribery conviction went before the Supreme Court Wednesday.

McDonnell was convicted of accepting more than $165,000 in gifts from a wealthy businessman in exchange for promoting a dietary supplement.
McDonnell broke no Virginia state laws, but the Justice Department charged him with breaking federal anti-corruption laws.
McDonnell set up meetings and hosted events for Star Scientific Inc. CEO Jonnie Williams as part of customary services often provided by politicians. He and his wife, Maureen, also hosted a product launch for Williams, but they did not pressure other officials nor did Williams receive funding for medical studies on the dietary supplement.
The justices will consider whether to overturn McDonnell's conviction.
At issue is a federal law that bars public officials from accepting money or gifts in exchange for "official acts." The court is expected to clarify what distinguishes bribery from the routine actions that politicians often perform as a courtesy to constituents.
McDonnell says he never used his governor's office to help the businessman.
Thursday's 700 Club will provide an in-depth report on the hearing.
