No 'Christmas Break' for Nebraska School District

03-24-2016

A proposal to put Christ back into "Christmas break" for a school district in Omaha, Nebraska has been rejected.

Millard School Board member Paul Meyer proposed changing the districts "winter break" to "Christmas break."

Meyers told Omaha World-Herald he was "a little tired of a minute minority in this country that keeps pushing Christmas out, keeps pushing God out, keeps pushing Christ out, when the majority is still a Judeo-Christian country."

The motion was heard Monday night but ultimately failed with a 3-1 vote.

School board President Mike Kennedy told Omaha World-Herald he appreciated the effort, but didn't believe the administration was intentionally trying to remove Christmas from the calendar.

"I do know, as a Catholic, I have no problem the way the calendar is," Kennedy said. "I celebrate Christmas. I know other people on this board do too. People are free to celebrate what they want to believe."

"I don't think anyone's trying to take Christmas away from my child," he concluded.
