WASHINGTON – A lot of laughter came from the South Lawn of the White House Monday, with more than 35,000 kids and parents rotating through for the annual Easter Egg Roll.
It's the last one for the Obama family.
President Barack Obama continued his tradition of reading the book Where the Wild Things Are to a group of young children gathered on the lawn.
The president gnashed his teeth, made claw shapes with his hands, and rolled his eyes as he encouraged the children to play along with the book.
Obama then joined kids playing one of his favorite games: basketball.
He took part in a doubles tennis game, at one point apologizing to his partner for bringing him down.
A number of professional athletes, like former NBA start Shaquille O'Neal, helped lead workshops for the kids. Other performers included Idina Menzel, the actress and singer best known for her performance of Queen Elsa in the film "Frozen," Silento, known for his hit debut single "Watch Me," and Disney star Trevor Jackson.
The egg rolling is a tradition that began in 1878. Each administration puts their stamp on the event.
This year, as part of her "Let's Move" initiative to reduce childhood obesity, first lady Michelle Obama added a fun run.
