A tornado struck Oklahoma Wednesday night leaving many homes and businesses damaged and seven people severely injured.

One tornado touched down multiple times as it ripped through Tulsa and Owasso, leaving those seven people in serious condition.

About one square mile of a mostly residential area sustained damage, Tulsa Fire Department spokesman Stan May said. One home was destroyed and other residences and businesses sustained roof and structural damage, he said.

Nearly 5,000 Public Service Company of Oklahoma customers lost power after the storm, but the utility said service had been restored to all but about 1,000 early Thursday morning.

The storm also brought heavy rain and flooding to nearly 9 million people in parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas.

Arkansas was one of the worst-hit states, with a group of people needing to be rescued from raging floodwaters.

The state was racked by flash flooding and power outages.
