Violence in the Central African Republic is leading to a humanitarian crisis, with more than 2.5 million people desperately in need of aid.

But fighting between Muslims and Christians is making it impossible for any aid to reach the area.

"The situation requires a political solution," Amy Martin, U.N. Officer for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, said. "We have the situation where the humanitarians are trying to support people where they are, to help provide basic services and to protect them where they are."

"We're calling on more troops to come in and help continue the stabilization efforts and to help protect the civilians because they still don't feel secure enough to go home," she urged.

U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is now asking the international community to send an additional 3,000 troops to combat the increasing violence.
