Peace talks over the violence in South Sudan have stalled, Ethiopia officials announced Monday.

The world's newest country has been rocked by a power struggle in recent weeks.

The deadly violence began Dec. 15, forcing about 200,000 South Sudanese men, women and children to flee their homes.

Officials have been holding talks in neighboring Ethiopia to try and resolve the conflict. But those talks still face major hurdles.

The United States has been evacuating staff from its embassy in South Sudan. U.S. missionaries and aid workers are also leaving the country.

South Sudan officially became a country in July of 2011.
