Rescue teams have recovered more bodies from the Soma Mine explosion in western Turkey, bringing the death toll to 282, making it the deadliest mining disaster in Turkey's history.

Authorities estimate roughly 150 miners are still trapped and efforts to reach them are being hindered by a fire still blazing inside the mine some 18 hours after the initial blast.

With no miners brought out alive since early Wednesday, hopes of finding any survivors are fading.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited the site before holding a press conference in the Soma municipality, Today's Zaman reported. As he left the building, angry residents greeted him with boos and calls for his resignation.

Meanwhile in Istanbul and Ankara, more protests erupted against the government and the mining company.

Officials say there were 787 people inside the mine at the time of the explosion.
