Christians around the world celebrated Easter Sunday, taking time to also remember those who suffer for the faith.
Pope Francis delivered a somber message focusing on the worldwide persectuion of Christians, sending his prayers to the families of those 147 people massacred at a Kenyan university by Islamist terrorists last week.
The victims were reportedly targeted because of their Christian faith.
In Kenya, flags flew at half-staff as the nationed mourned the loss of life there. At a church in Garissa, where the mass murder took place, Christians prayed and sang.
"So many young lives that were spent just like that, without any reason," Bishop Joseph Alesandro of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church said.
In war-torn Iraq, Christian refugees celebrated Christ's resurrection.
"We have to be patient and follow Jesus' path," one man said.
In Jerusalem, about 1,500 people gathered at sunrise at The Garden Tomb (LINK), where it is believed the first people first learned Jesus had been raised from the dead after being crucified.
In America, President Barack Obama and his family attended Easter service at Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia.
