The Saudi-led coalition resumed airstrikes against Shiite rebels in Yemen, less than 24 hours after announcing its air campaign was over.

The Saudis resumed the attacks in Taiz, Yemen's third largest city, after a military base fell to Iranian-backed Houthi rebels.

The base served as headquarters for the 35th Armored Brigade, a unit loyal to Yemini President Abed Mansour Hadi.

The Houthis, allied with former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, remained defiant as coalition forces attacked its supply lines and missile stockpiles.

A military official said the announcement didn't say they would stop the strikes altogether and that the coalition would continue to protect civilians without specifying how.

Hadi has vowed to reconstruct the country.
