On Tuesday, Pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine announced they had begun a large-scale pullback of heavy weapons.

The move is part of an international peace agreement reached last week calling on both sides to pull back heavy weaponry 15 to 45 miles from the front line.

Ukraine delayed the move on Monday, blaming continuing attacks from separatists rebels in eastern Ukraine.

Discussions on the fragile peace deal are continuing in Paris, with foreign ministers from Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France all taking part.

The Ukrainian government requested international troops to help enforce the peace agreement. Renewed attacks by separatist rebels forced government troops to abandon the town of Debaltseve.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said he requested peacekeepers because pro-Russian rebels have violated the truce repeatedly since it took effect.

Moscow and pro-Russian separatists have rejected the request.

Russia and the separatists accuse the Ukrainian government of trying to destroy the ceasefire agreement reached in Belarus last week.
