Many Americans believe the U.S. should make a deal with Iran to limit its nuclear program, but a new poll shows most don't believe the Islamic Republic will live up to its end of the bargain.
The AP-GfK poll shows about half of Americans say they approve of making a deal with Iran, but nearly 70 percent say they're not confident Iran will abide by those key points.
A preliminary agreement requires Iran to allow inspections at its nuclear facilities, ship plutonium out of the country, and shut down nearly half of its centrifuges.
Only 3 percent of respondents were "very confident" Iran would agree to the requirements, seven out of 10 were "not confident," and 25 percent were "moderately confident."
And 57 percent of Americans disapprove of how President Barack Obama is handing the issue.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly said a nuclear-armed Iran is an existential threat to the Jewish state, citing its vows to wipe Israel off the map, its state sponsorship of terrorism, and its questionable human rights record at home.
