The heavily debated Keystone XL pipeline, which would run from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico, has hit a new snag.
The company behind the project has asked the U.S. State Department to pause its review.
The Calgary-based TransCanada Corp. says a suspension would be appropriate while it works with Nebraska leaders on the route the pipeline would take through the state.
The Obama administration is widely expected to reject the pipeline project.
The request for delay could mean that the next president would have the final say on the project.
