Fighting broke out between Syrian troops and rebel forces --a violation of the most recent ceasefire.
The Syrian government news agency says rebels shelled government-held neighborhoods, while state troops tried to seize rebel-held areas.
"We've seen violations by both sides," U.S. State Deparment spokesman Mark Toner said in a statement. "We're continuing to monitor this very closely."
Three civilians have been killed since the truce went into effect Monday, including two children and one adult. Strikes against Islamic State jihadists has also left some 23 people dead.
Both sides had agreed to let security forces enter Aleppo to ensure the safe delivery of humanitarian aid. The U.N. estimates some 250,000 people are trapped in Aleppo with no access to aid despite the ceasefire.
Syria's military has begun withdrawing from a major artery to Aleppo, but the U.N. envoy to Syria says President Bashar al-Assad's government is obstructing access to the city. Government forces have blocked all aid from entering Aleppo.
The Syrian government says it's willing to coordinate a withdrawal with opposition forces to allow aid in.
